Tempo Rubato presents ‘Sound is a Describing Word’. Three free concerts curated by three Melbourne-based classical musicians, exploring sound and soundness of Heart, of Mind and of Body.

Sound of Mind, presented by Sophia Kirsanova with soloists from the Melbourne Strings chamber ensemble, features works for string quartet for the transfiguration and enlightenment of the mind.

Established in 2022, Melbourne Strings comprises top classical string players from Melbourne, including leading professional players and emerging artists. MS celebrates the virtuosity and beauty of stringed instruments and presents the audiences with original and engaging programs. MS soloists present a chamber music program exploring the body of sound transformations through the medium of string music. The program features one of Schoenberg's most celebrated works "Transfigured Night", inspired by Richard Dehmel's poem of the same title. Two works by cutting-edge composers Gabriela Smith and Caroline Shaw explore, in their own way, sounds and techniques of string instruments, taking inspiration from classical traditions and transforming them for the 21st century.
