Earshift Music is proud to celebrate 15 years with a showcase presenting Melbourne’s most ground-breaking jazz stars. Jazz vocal treasure Michelle Nicole brings her quartet in a double bill with trailblazers I Hold the Lion’s Paw with guest Sunny Kim.

The Michelle Nicolle Quartet is renowned for its diverse repertoire, boasting eight albums and a wealth of Australian and international tours over their 25-year journey. Their recent release, 'The Bach Project,' beautifully reimagines the music of J.S. Bach through their unique chamber jazz style. The quartet's arrangements masterfully capture J.S. Bach's compositions, infusing them with the improvisational flair that breathes new life into these timeless works. Featuring Michelle Nicolle on vocals, Geoff Hughes on guitar, Tom Lee on bass, and Ronny Ferella on drums.

“If there’s such a phenomenon as the perfect jazz singer, Michelle Nicolle is far and away my choice.” ★★★★★ - The Australian

'I Hold the Lion’s Paw' featuring Sunny Kim, is a musical journey like no other. Led by ARIA-nominated trumpeter-producer Reuben Lewis, this ensemble delves into an immersive world of twisted funk, electro-grunge, and psychedelic jazz that's been described as "the feeling of having stumbled into someone else’s LSD trip” (Sydney Morning Herald). It's a sonic adventure that uses the stage as a laboratory, employing real-time post-production sorcery. Joining them is the legendary vocalist Sunny Kim, drawing from her global nomadic experiences to create meaningful connections through self-discovery, deep listening, and collaboration.

Don't miss this unique and first-time creative exchange!

Founded in 2009 and directed by Jeremy Rose, Earshift Music has released over 80 albums, representing the diverse cultural bleed and distinct musical voices of Australian jazz.
“...Earshift represents the fresh future of Australian music.” - nycjazzrecord
