First time festival artist April Verch is another
young Canadian traditional based performer developing old
roots in a contemporary direction and winning much critical
and audience acclaim in Canada and the US. April is a world-class
fiddler, a champion Ottawa Valley stepdancer, an acclaimed
composer and a vocalist whose voice has been hailed as "absolutely
captivating" by the Toronto Star. April travels with
three world-class musicians Marc Bru (percussion), Lincoln
Meyers (guitar) and Cody Walters (upright-electric bass).
April's fine vocal delivery is backed up by the finely detailed
elegance of her fiddle phrasing and the depth of a repertoire
that ranges from bluegrass to Brazilian to Celtic, from a
jaunty Canadian folksong to a poignant contemporary ballad.
The April Verch Band have established a reputation as consummate
performers, winning over audiences not only with sheer virtuosity
on their respective instruments, but also with charm, humor
and boundless energy on stage.

Dev'lish Mary are four young local women who are breathing
new life into the old timey music repertoire of the Southern
states. Featuring Ruth Hazleton (guitar, 5 string banjo),
Liz Frencham (double bass), Cat Moser (fiddle)
and Sally Taylor (fiddle). All of these gals are old-time,
bluegrass and western swing junkies from way back, and together
they bring their own spicy interpretation of hill-jilly and
American roots music.
Their repertoire is a gumbo of musical genres, combining traditional
pearls with contemporary gems. The music is lively and energetic,
and the four part singing combination is of that real old
time style somewhat reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters. Pack
your dancin' shoes, saddle and apron and get ready for the
ride.
