CHRIS SMITHER
On this his fifth tour of Australia Chris Smither will be bringing a brand new recording 'Time Stands Still'. Recorded in just days in a live setting, it's a classic Smither offering with just two excellent supporting musicians who's nifty guitar work and sympathetic percussion blend beautifully with Chris's rock solid guitar and tunes. As always, there's an inspiring bunch of new songs to delight and entertain us; original compositions that retain immense character, his tricky observations on our follies and triumphs, witty, insightful and touching considerations for the listener to ponder and for the enjoyment of all. Trying to compartmentalize his music is impossible, he's one of a few who demand their own genre, of one, unique and unmistakable, a rare talent.

His ability to take the emotion at the heart of a song, make it transparent and pass it on to the listener is unmatched. Smither's rich, deep, emotion-charged voice and his exquisite guitar playing imbues these simple thoughts with a profundity forged out of genuine passion SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

Through the decades, Mr. Smither has taken the blues in a direction entirely his own: stoic existential ruminations sung in a pained, weathered moan and set to quietly virtuoso guitar. There was always unpretentious philosophy in the deep blues, and Mr. Smither has followed it toward his own quiet epiphanies. NEW YORK TIMES

One of North America's leading blues and folk artists, Chris Smither is renowned for his alluring baritone vocals, superb song writing and outstanding musicianship. Smither is a proud carrier of a true American tradition, regularly performing masterful arrangements of some of the classic African American blues tunes. His own songs display a wry, intellectual, deep look at it all, "on the outside looking in", as one of his best new songs describes. His live performance is further enhanced by the same dry, darkish sense of humour that is prevalent in so many of his songs. This is Smither's fifth visit to Australia and he brings with him a recently released eleventh studio album, "Time Stand Still"

BILL JACKSON
Albury born and Gippsland reared singer/songwriter Bill Jackson has had a big year. His current release 'Steel & Bone' was awarded Folk Alliance Australia 'Radio Presenters Album of the Year' in 2008 and he was invited to tour the US alt country hotspots later that same year with his Acoustic Orchestra (Peter Fidler / Ruth Hazleton). Many of his songs are co-written with his brother Ross and have been described as engaging, plainspoken and articulate - songs about Hank, Morphine, High Country Lovers and our shared common experiences. Jackson was also invited back to showcase at the International Folk Alliance Convention in Memphis (Feb 2010) and to play gigs at selected venues like The Bluebird Café in Nashville. He will be joined onstage by Peter Fidler - one of Australia's finest roots musician's and a dobro player par excellence.
