PADDY KEENAN
Generally acknowledged as one of the true legends of Irish traditional music Paddy Keenan is regarded as the greatest uilleann piper performing today. Born into a traveling family steeped in traditional music; his flowing, open-fingered style of playing can be traced directly from the style of such great traveling pipers as Johnny Doran, as well as that of his own father and grandfather, both of whom played in the same style. Although often compared to Doran, Paddy's own style is a direct result of his father's tutelage and influence. In the 1970s Paddy was a founding member of the legendary Bothy Band. His virtuosity on the pipes, combined with the ferocity of his playing, made him, in the opinion of many, its driving force. Since those heady days Paddy has continued mostly as solo performer and has performed at festivals and concerts all over the world. He has also composed music for several film projects, his last being a documentary film made in Mali, West Africa. Paddy will be joined on guitar by Melbourne musician Anthony O'Neill arguably Australia's best traditional multi instrumentalist.
