WHITETOP MOUNTAINEERS
For fans of American old time mountain music (and roots music lovers alike), The Whitetop Mountaineers are a live act not to be missed. From Virginia, USA, Martha Spencer and Jackson Cunningham return to Australia by popular demand. In 2008 and 2009, the duo stunned and delighted audiences across the country with their performance of American mountain music and song and dance - they are the 'real deal'. Both musicians are skilled multi-instrumentalists - Jackson plays guitar, mandolin and claw hammer banjo, while Martha plays fiddle, guitar and banjo. They are both strong vocal performers and their close harmonies are indicative of the old time and bluegrass traditions from which they draw their repertoire. In addition to being a talented musician & singer, Martha is also an exceptional high steppin' dancer - having spent much of her life learning Appalachian dance. Don't miss then their only Melbourne show.

PECKIN' ORDER
Brunswick is the centre of roots and traditional music in Melbourne and Australia; any Saturday afternoon in the Lomond Hotel you can find up to 25 musicians in session belting out tradition old time mountain music, just for the love of it. The Pecking Order, are a new four piece old timey band formed by a select group of these Brunswick pickers and singers. They scratch out free range original, old-timey, folk and roots music with infectious energy. Featuring fiddles, banjos, vocals, guitar, double bass and chicken wire, their music is predominantly old-timey with a distinctly local sound. Their tunes have an original and exciting feel that carry the traditions of this old time dance music, music that survives and thrives, a couple of hundred years since the style was first noted and very much alive.
