EILEN JEWELL Eilen Jewell is a hot new name in the United States Americana
genre, this Boston-based alternative country singer-songwriter is
sweeping all before her as her albums receive huge attention and her
live performances are winning her new fans at every show she plays.
Eilen is touring Australia for the first time with her longtime band
of Jason Beek (drums, harmony vocals), Jerry Miller
(electric, acoustic, and steel guitars), and Johnny Sciascia
(upright bass) who wed her elegantly unflinching songwriting with
a rustic, pre-Beatles swagger that encapsulates vintage R&B, Midwestern
garage rock, Chicago blues, and early rock and rockabilly, while maintaining
the haunting, folk-inspired purity that first made her an artist to
watch. Eilen is touring her new album With Sea of Tears combines which
Eilen's swinging country roots with her love of 60's British Rock.
The result will appeal to fans of Holly Golightly as well as Gillian
Welch. The record features a drop-dead killer version of Johnny Kidd
& The Pirates' Shakin' All Over', which any Australian over 40
will know via Normie Rowe's smash hit version from 1965. 'Shakin'
All Over' is the album's first single and will be the album's first
video.
"She is a remarkable singer: you'll understand why 'Eilen'
rhymes with 'feelin'." - Doug Spencer, Weekend Planet, ABC Radio
SUZANNAH
ESPIE Suzannah Espie was born in England, brought up in WA and found
herself in Melbourne at 18. Studying composition at Latrobe Uni, she
graduated with distinction and has spent the subsequent years forgetting
most of what she learned. As a singer she's equally at home with sweet
country, dirty blues, down home soul and gospel and most everything
in between. "Everything I sing is from my heart" she says,
and this is obvious to all who have watched her through her days with
the wonderful GIT, her blues mama outings with pianist Andrew 'Big
Boy Lemonade' Ogburn up to her latest performances with her latest
band The Last Word. Suzannah has spent most of the last year
touring to promote her world class new album First and Last Hotel
produced by acclaimed singer/songwriter Charles Jenkins (Ice-cream
Hands).
"There's no shortage these days of fey-voiced singer/songwriters.
So thank the heavens and the lung gods for Suzannah Espie, a woman
who's not afraid to sing, really sing. And yowza, can she. **** The
