UNCLE EARL
Visiting Australia for the first time Uncle Earl skillfully
complement their deep roots in traditional American music with new
ideas, songs, and arrangements, the "all g'Earl" string
band has emerged as one of the leading lights in the ongoing old-time
renaissance. Now entering the band's tenth year, long time Uncle Earl
members KC Groves and Kristin Andreassen are leading
a new formation of the band that has influenced a remarkable new generation
of old-time musicians. With the addition of the hard-driving 23-year-old
fiddle player Stephanie Coleman and the accomplished multi-instrumentalist
Paula Bradley on banjo and clogging (Paula has toured with
Bruce Molsky and Tony Trischka), the band continues to develop its
unique sound - a hybrid of contemporary and modern, with all the members
committed to music steeped in tradition and yet unafraid to explore
new frontiers.
STOP PRESS- Sharon Gilchrist, (longtime former member
of Uncle Earl) will be joining the tour on bass and vocals.
BLUESTONE
JUNCTION
Bluestone Junction's sound is straight from the late 40s and early
50s. It recreates the sound of perhaps the last genre of music to
evolve using only acoustic instruments, before electric guitars and
other amplified instruments took centre stage - Bluegrass. The band
lineup is traditional 5 piece instrumentation plus the essential of
all great blue grass music, a top vocal line up lead by Chris Jacobs
who is surely the best bluegrass singer in the country. The repertoire
includes original compositions, tunes by modern bluegrass 'traditionalists'
such as the Johnson Mountain Boys, and of course classic compositions
from bluegrass pioneers such as Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Lester
Flatt, the Stanley Brothers and more. Bluestone Junction's performances
have excitement, passion and integrity. They mostly perform as the
music's originators did, around a single valve powered large plate
condenser microphone that accurately captures the complete performance. View
