Moreland's history in song
After a sell-out 2015 Darebin premier, “Goin’ Back – Moreland’s history in song” returns with an all-star cast, bringing together the local histories and songwriting talents of the Darebin and Moreland areas in a unique, one-off show.
For this show, Moreland songwriters have been invited to pen original songs inspired by photographs from Moreland local history archives. Leading the way will be two of Moreland’s best known and highly respected songwriters, Jeff Lang and Alison Ferrier, alongside alt-country stars Tracy McNeil (Tracy McNeil and The Good Life) and Luke Sinclair (Raised By Eagles), local troubadour Van Walker, and renowned folk-singer, Mandy Connell.
PLUS gracing the stage for its second iteration, critically acclaimed songwriter and long-time Northcote resident Mick Thomas (Weddings Parties Anything) will re-create the Darebin set with Charles Jenkins, Cat Canteri & Justin Bernasconi, Sean McMahon, Jemma Rowlands, Rich Davies and Brooke Russell.
This line up of Melbourne’s finest songwriters will be joined by The Clifton Hillbillies backing band (nominated for Best Country Album at The Age Music Victoria Awards in 2015), with backing vocals from Brooke Russell, Ayleen O’Hanlon and Jemma Rowlands .
Goin’ Back will illuminate the historical characters, places and events of Moreland and Darebin’s and exhibit evocative images from Melbourne’s most populous songwriting postcodes.
